Let's plug into the world of thoughtful outlets and discover how they can make a world of difference in your interior design journey.
Outlets
Tip #1 _Outlets should match wall or cabinetry in which they are are installed.
There has been so many times I have walked into a beautiful kitchen with this amazing island and the next thing that catches my eye is the ugly outlet on the side. Maybe the island is painted this beautiful accent color or is made of dark stained cabinetry and it never fails, the builder has installed the typical builder grade white outlet and white plate.
If the base of your kitchen island is wood, use a brown duplex ad cover plate. If the base is black, use a black duplex and cover plate. Same thing goes for walls that are not just white.
If your kitchen island or walls are painted an accent color, do not worry! There is paintable duplex covers. Home depot sells them and I am sure other home improvement stores have them or Amazon.
If your walls are wallpapered, cover the outlet with the wallpaper or use a clear/invisible cover plate.
Tip #2_Hide your outlets below your upper cabinetry if possible
You are installing this beautiful quartz slab or backsplash above your new countertops. If you have upper cabinets then there is a solution. Legrand makes raceways that can be installed below your upper cabinetry. It gives you plenty of outlet options distributed evenly along the strip.
Tip #3_Strategically place outlets behind or under furniture.
This tip is for new construction or major renovations. Think about where you would place table lamps in your home to make sure cords can be hidden behind furniture. I always have an outlet behind each nightstand, dining room buffet, and end tables. If you have a floating sofa off from the walls, then it is important to have a floor core under the lounge piece to allow floor lamps or lighting on end table power.
Tip #4_Make a statement with you outlet cover plates
For outlets that can be seen, you can always dress them up with a fun outlet cover or a more upscale look with a metal finish. There are many companies out there that have fun plate covers like Anthropologie and Etsy. Metal plate covers can be found at home renovation stores .
As we conclude our exploration into the world of outlets in interior design, we've uncovered the hidden potential of these often-overlooked elements. From blending seamlessly with your decor to providing convenient access to power, outlets can truly elevate your home design in subtle yet impactful ways.
By choosing outlets that align with your aesthetic preferences and functional needs, you can create a space that not only looks great but also works effortlessly for you and your family. Whether you opt for sleek, flush-mounted outlets for a minimalist vibe or decorative options that add a pop of personality, the key is to integrate them thoughtfully into your design scheme.
